Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDidn’t like the trash emptied daily or our beds not made, I’m on holiday. Disliked the dryers are too high, I lost an item. Could do with a step or stool. Pool not open, it is summer to us. Breakfast was ok, nice choice, perhaps porridge or cereal.
Lovely room and floor given, nice & quiet. Clean, the onsen was wonderful enjoyed this v much. Close to shops for snacks or food. V close to a station.

United KingdomAlthough the nearest station is very close, the line (Toei Ooedo) wasn't the most convenient for us. Changing to the JR/Tokyo Metro lines is always a trek, and Shinjuku station is nearly 30min away on foot (although the walk is quite pleasant, going through the Shinjuku Central Park). Depending on your transport needs, it might be better to stay closer to a different station. At the same time, the location is still highly convenient - the transfer is just a bit annoying. The hotel downstairs is bafflingly styled after an Irish pub, which we didn't find particularly appealing. If you want a Japanese Western-style breakfast, I guess this is the place for you, but we opted to get our morning meals elsewhere (fwiw, there is a soba place doing set breakfast meals for 480 yen + several konbinis on the same street, so this was hardly an obstacle).
The room was more spacious than we expected, and the bed was extremely comfortable. We stayed for almost a week, and felt it was very good value for money. We particularly appreciated that the sento on 2F is open until 2AM, so we could enjoy a soak after running around Tokyo all day & getting back late and tired.

United StatesFront staff were noticeably aloof in comparison to other hotels on my trip throughout the whole of Japan. They lacked the typical Japanese hospitality that I have experienced thus far. Not necessarily rude per say, just not overly welcome comparatively. Bed was a little too soft for my tastes. Most of the Japanese beds I have slept on have been quite firm, which I love. This will likely be a pro for more western leaning individuals.
Room was nice. Nice selection of the on demand video stuff with well known movies like Transformers. AC got sufficiently cool. Bathrooms were good.

United KingdomI had a dress hung up to dry in my bathroom and on cleaning day of my room it appears housekeeping have splashed bleach on my dress by mistake. I wouldn’t let it put me off staying again but it’s unfortunate as it’s ruined the dress.
This is my second time staying here. I feel safe as a solo female traveler and it’s location it’s great. You’re close enough to shinjuku and train stations but also out of the chaos of the more party centred places.

AustraliaThe rooms are quite small and not much space if you have a couple of large suitcases. Luckily we didn’t mind this too much, particularly for the price.
We really liked the convenient location near the metro, close to multiple convenience stores, the onsite onset and the washing machine and dryers.

United KingdomThey cleaned our room the day before check-out and removed our yukata but did not replace them. We arrived back late that day so unfortunately did not notice whilst the front desk was still staffed, so were unable to ask for new ones. Was a bit frustrating as it meant we were unable to use the public baths on our last night (as you need to wear your yukata there).
The location was great - the metro is right across the road and ideally linked if you are planning on visiting the Shinjuku or Shibuya areas. There are also convenience stores nearby and a supermarket if needed. The staff were very friendly during check-in/-out. We extended our check out by 2 hours on the last day, which we requested the night before and only cost us an extra ¥1,000 per hour. They stored our luggage after check-out so we could do some final exploring before leaving, and helped us book a taxi to the airport. The public baths on the 2nd floor were a real highlight - definitely go if you stay at any of the APA hotels. We made use of them every night we could.

United KingdomThe room was extremely small. Nowhere to have your case open. Only a couple of coathangers for clothes. No wardrobe, which I understand is normal for japan. But the room is so small. My case was on a case stand at the foot of my bed, but it over hung on to the bed, which meant I kicked it at night as I'm quite tall. Well, I'm 5ft 6 lol
The bar staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable.

the location is very good, right next door to the Nishinjiku metro station, some restaurants and multiple areas to walk around like parks filled with green.
