The historical city center it´s must see. The Gaíba rive shore is amazing. Porto Alegre, like any other big city in the world, have itís problems, but the place deservs a visit, including the nearby cities of Gramado and Canela.

Porto Alegre is a big city with a felling of small town.
Porto Alegre is a big city with a felling of small town. Lots of green areas, parks and squares. The shopping malls are huge. The traffic is not bad, just avoid to go out at rush hour. The main food is bbq (gaucho stye) and has steakhouses all you can eat with a reasonable price everywhere around the city.

Porto Alegre is full of potential.
Porto Alegre is full of potential. However, I did not feel real safe walking by myself in some areas. On Sunday afternoon, I met a local who spoke English. She said my feelings were correct and that I needed to be VERY aware of who was around me. The town itself has an enormous amount of wonderful, old architectural beauties to behold. If you are traveling through this area, a one-day stop is sufficient.

Compared to Salvador, Recife or Rio Porto Alegre has not so much to offer. There are some museums worth a short visit, there is the botanical garden and the Orla do Guaiba, the promenade/beach at the river, where it is especially nice to go to see the sunset. I think three days are enough.
A fourth day can be spent in Gramado and Canela to the waterfall Cascata do Caracol.

the worst part is the city airport connecting flight which is Lima Peru the worst most terrible airport in the world included the working personnel of the airport and the Avianca airline as well. in addition you can buy snitching to drink or eat because is a robbery. An example a little can of domestic beer they charge 7 dollars and a little pack of potato chips 5 dollars. if you can avoid Avianca airlines connecting in Lima Peru , do it , you will thanks me
I want to highlight the service of Victor Hugo, who got a fan for me, in order to compensate for the delay of the air conditioning to cool the room; had night that I slept alone with it turned on, so strong that it was the wind. Traditional Porto Alegre hotel, with old but comfortable beds. Simple breakfast, but nutritious and only with what really matters: good sweet cake, a spectacular fruit salad, coffee passed on the whim and sandwich. Anti-noise windows give greater comfort to the guest, after all, it is a very busy avenue.
We chose this hotel because we needed to catch a flight early the next day. The location was perfect. Close to the metro, some markets and restaurants. It was very simple, but adequate for packing up and a good night's rest. The staff let us use the breakfast space and electric kettle for our supper snack.
This hostel provides a super homely atmosphere. The staff and particularly William who is the host and owner, is such a wonderful human. It’s close to all the attractions that Porto Alegre has on offer. The WiFi works wonderfully. I will come back!
Smart hotel - the hotel of the 21st Century that suits an individual's needs. Great location. Clean apartments. So much peace and quiet. Ideal for a break after a long period of work. Value for money, comfortable beds, and a sense of independence.
Porto Alegre is not a very safe city, so choosing a safe neighborhood is very important. As far as this apartment, the location is perfect, the evironment is safe, the facilities are great and the apartment was cleaned very well.
Perfect location - everything nearby on foot in the beautiful Mohinos de Vento area of Porto Alegre.. Nice touches and details in the communal areas. Small kitchen room off bedroom with door. Comfortable bed.
The food at the restaurant it's a must. The best food I have tried in Porto Alegre during my whole stay. Rooms are clean. I did like and enjoy staying at this property.
Nothing the next door building was making loud noise and music until 2 am, called front desk and they did nothing, the hotel smells bad, the shower very old
