Amazing place. Food phenomenal. Note though that restaurant reservations need to be made weeks or months ahead. They had a great picnic basket dinner option when reservations are full. Breakfast was amazingly good. The option to walk around the monestary at night and early am without tourists made all the difference.
Hostellerie La Croix Blanche is located opposite the Fontevraud Abbey in the heart of the Loire Valley, a Unesco World Heritage Site, 15 minutes from Saumur and Chinon.

We spent 2 nights at La Croix Blanche. It is in the centre of a charming and small village. There is ample parking at the rear of the hotel. As it is an old property there are no lifts to the bedrooms.
We stayed in the family room - spacious and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was very good and we had an enjoyable dinner in the hotel with very good service.
Hotel with 14 rooms, including 2 family rooms for 6 people. The establishment was renovated in 2022. Free WiFi, free bike parking, and closed parking available.
Demeure de la Vignole is a 17th century residence located in the Loire Valley. It offers an indoor heated swimming pool carved into the rock, just 3.1 mi from Fontevraud Abbey.

The Abbaye is impressive and fascinating to explore (allow a full day) but if the Modern Art Museum is closed ( as it was during our stay) there isn't a great deal more to see in the town.
Saumur (20 minutes away) is a good place to go (we found a vast array of restaurants including a truly outstanding Lebanese and a fusion French/Colombian) and the Domaines for wine ( we visited Gratien & Meyer) are superb and you get to visit the vast tunnels under the cliffs and also taste (and buy probably!)

Magical place with lots to do.
Magical place with lots to do. Enjoyed the art museum and wandered around the grounds. Didn't know that there were beautiful places to eat and drink until we were walking around the grounds - wasn't flagged up and needs to be.
Absolutely loved the buildings but a lot to do in one visit. Could have taken a couple of days to see everything and enjoy the gardens.

Staff is wonderful, rooms adequate but beds in serious need of replacement. The TV in the room had English channels which was great and the location could not be better but the food via room service was appallingly bad.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Not a fan of the expensive breakfast that was ‘style over substance’ and couldn’t get WiFi to work. Overall pluses were so strong would recommend.
Free access to the historic, beautiful Abbey complex absolutely made our stay, especially the sound and light show at night.

I went to the new Art Exhibition and had to leave after seeing that. It was incredible and I wish I had been able to take more time.
I have visited the Abbey several times previously and love the place.

Fontevraud-l'Abbaye is a fantastic attraction that has been carefully restored over the last thirty or more years. It was famously used as prison for a period. The prisoners complained to the state that it was a tragic use of such an important monument.
This is where Henri II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart and Isabel of Angouleme chose to be buried. Sensational.
The Michelin starred restaurant on site is also remarkable and an amazing setting.

This place was quirky! The room was one over a restaurant, which was, unfortunately, closed. The bathroom, complete with large bath, was actually bigger than the bedroom, but that didn't really matter. It was strange, but certainly not a traditional hotel room as we imagine them to be - a box with a bathroom in the corner. The breakfast was a DIY affair, but was fine nonetheless. The owner was charming and the location in this sweet little village was perfect.
This is an exceptional hotel - we stayed for a significant family birthday and they could not have made it more perfect. Beautiful rooms with period features, generous bathrooms, super-comfy beds. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and the staff were generous, kind and helpful. The hotel location is great, right beside the Abbey and within easy walking distance of all the village has to offer. We will be back.
This quaint small house was a great home base for our exploration of the Loire Valley. It is centrally located in the lovely village of Fontevraud l'Abbaye, just a short walk from the World Heritage Site. We enjoyed the classic feel of the town, the weekly Wednesday market, as well as the gorgeous woods nearby. With a rental car, there is easy access to many wineries and chateaux nearby.

The setting of this hotel right on the grounds of the famous Abbaye is spectacular. The new modern art museum, hosting the recently donated Martine et Léon Cligman Collection, “mérite le voyage”. The bonus is in Fontevraud Le Restaurant*, adjacent to the hotel, a gastronomic beauty. Guests can walk the grounds after closing time to the public.
What a treat for our last night in France. Beautiful hotel in a stunning location, friendly and helpful staff, incredible and spacious room (really comfortable beds!) with fabulous view, stunning bathroom (the Clarins shampoo/shower gel were a lovely touch) and a delicious evening meal in the restaurant….just wonderful! Thoroughly recommend!
This is a really unique place to stay, and very charming. Being able to wander about the Abbey at night, when no one else is around is priceless. The room itself was a bit small, but well-equipped, and the staff were all very helpful. The on-site restaurant also provided an incredible, memorable meal.
Beautiful hotel and former abbey. Great value. Staff was excellent, so kind and helpful with whatever we needed. Parking was free which was unexpected. Located in the center a small town which was lovely to walk around and with your stay, you get free access to the museum on site.
Charming and engaging host; beautifully appointed room in a delightful village. Nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was delicious and recommendations for dinner and evening viewing of son et lumiere at the Abbaye made for a memorable stay.
The family that run the hotel are charming and accommodating. I will book directly with the hotel when I stay again. The breakfast and the way it is run is excellent and the restaurant is spot on.
Nice room. Breakfast good. Hotel on the grounds of the abbey. Visiting the abbey and its grounds after visiting hours as the hotel is in the grounds was marvellous. Nobody there.
The hotel was ideal for our family. It was a good price, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, there was a lovely breakfast in the morning and the location was perfect
The restaurant on the property was lovely and the hotel breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The pool and whirlpool were a treat and the soap boutique was fun to shop in.
Gorgeous, shabby chic style hotel - authentic,
French experience in a beautiful old building.
Soap shop is an added bonus, lots of beautiful
goodies that make great gifts.
