Our cottage (also referred to as a 'cabin') is charming, quaint, small, but mighty and built in 1897 by the Crains from Dark Corner (see picture in Staircase). Recently renovated, but no structural changes - doors, floors, walls, etc are all original. Set in the middle of 2 pastures with wooded areas and a barn; frequented by deer and the occasional black bear; being in the woods there are critters, birds, bees etc. all around. Lovely front porch for cool, quiet times, 2 back decks leading from kitchen for outside entertainment. The fire lane runs around the house and it is a lovely 0.1 mile walk around the property.
Hello! We are Mark & Ronelle McDaniel from Greer SC and we live, work & volunteer in the Upstate SC area. We've been in this area for 19 years after immigrating from South Africa and as they say "we love it here!" We fell in love with the cottage from the moment we saw her and and wanted to share the experience of staying in a 125 y.o. cottage with like-minded people.
The area itself (Dark Corner) has a rich history of civil war training camps, artillery practices aimed at Chestnut Ridge, Hog Back Mountain and many more. Because of the size of the property, neighbors are rarely seen, but always willing to help if needed. It's quiet, serene and filled with natures' sounds - a true getaway when needed!
